The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken action to address the recent disturbances during the vetting of parliamentary aspirants in the Odododiodio constituency in Greater Accra. In response to the unfortunate incident that occurred during the vetting process, the NDC has formed a five-member committee with the aim of investigating the matter and making appropriate recommendations for the party.
The committee comprises leading members of the party, including Edward Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of Parliament; Samuel Sarpong, NDC National Vice Chairman; George Loh, NDC Deputy Director of Legal; Obuobia Darko-Opoku, NDC Deputy Director of Communications; and Peter Lanchene Toobu, Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency.
According to a statement released by Fifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the NDC, the party’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) discussed the violence that occurred at its Greater Accra Regional Office during the vetting process for Odododiodio Constituency parliamentary aspirants. As a result of these discussions, FEC decided to refer the matter, along with an appeal process related to the eligibility of one of the aspirants, to a Special Committee for a thorough investigation.
The NDC has also suspended all processes related to the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency until the Special Committee concludes its investigations. The violent incident led to the destruction of party property and the manhandling of a Citi FM/TV journalist, Akosua Otchere. The party has condemned the violence and offered apologies to the affected journalist and the media house.
The NDC’s commitment to addressing the incident and ensuring a fair and transparent vetting process is evident in the formation of this committee. The party aims to restore order and fairness to the primary process in the Odododiodio Constituency.
