One of the first meetings held by President John Dramani Mahama after the January 7 inauguration was with the Chamber
of Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The meeting allowed the President to discuss the power sector’s challenges with producers. He highlighted the need to revitalise the Electricity Company of Ghana’s operations to prevent leakages in the downstream distribution sector. He assured the IPPs of his commitment to making the industry efficient to attract more investments.
Mr Mahama noted with concern that revenue from the Energy Sector Recovery Levy (ESLA) was mismanaged instead of being used to pay off accumulated debts. “While we take responsibility for solving the problems, we must let Ghanaians know the reality. Ghana seeks $3 billion from the IMF for macroeconomic stability, yet the energy sector debt has ballooned to $2.5 billion. ECG has become the ‘sick man’ with over 40% losses.” he noted in his opening remarks. “We shall revisit the deal with the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) that was stalled because of the PDS scandal for efficiency in the distribution and billing system”.
President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his campaign pledge to involve traditional leaders in governance, especially in enforcing laws protecting the environment.
Speaking at a meeting with the National House of Chiefs Steering Committee, the president thanked the chiefs for their warm welcome into their palaces during the Election 2024 campaign. He further acknowledge their respective roles in welcoming his team, giving them good counsel on how to conduct their
campaigns, and ensuring that the election was held in a peaceful atmosphere. President Mahama said he intends to hold regular dialogues on the country’s growth and development issues.
The meeting discussed, among others, the need to review the 1992 constitution and the problem of chieftaincy disputes, many of which have become national
security issues. “We must thank all of you
and the Almighty God for once again seeing Ghana
through a successful election, and I think that the way the whole world celebrated Ghana for the peaceful transition has
added one more accolade in our caps as the beacon of democracy in Africa
and it is something that we must all take pride in,” he said.
Nana Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, the
Mamponghene, congratulated President
Mahama on his inauguration.
The Chief of Defence Staff, the Inspector General of Police and other Security Service Chiefs have pledged their loyalty to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, John Dramani Mahama.

Mahama told the chiefs, elders and people of the Kusaaug traditional
area to exercise restraint and cooperate with all stakeholders for lasting peace and development.
He assured them that after appointing his security heads, he would charge them with making Bawku one of the priorities they must address.
At the Nayiri Palace in Nalerigu, the president assured Nayiri Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sherigahim that, as a son of the land, he would go the extra mile to bring
lasting peace and facilitate the area’s development. “I know that my father has
not been sleeping because of what is happening in Bawku and what is
happening in Walewale, which is giving him sleepless nights. During the campaign, I promised peace would be one of my major priorities, so it’s exactly one week since I was sworn in, and this is
my first major assignment outside Accra”

been messed up. But we have hope, and with courage, we shall solve it,” he
emphasised.
He also called for God’s direction and protection of Rev. Dr. Ebenezer Opambuor Adarkwa Yiadom, whom he described as a courageous man of God. “I heard his prophesies, and it gives me goosebumps anytime it’s replayed.
He exhibited courage even in an environment of hostility and harassment, but he stood the test of time,” the president added.
