In a recent Facebook post on November 15, 2023, Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), weighed in on the upcoming 2024 general elections, specifically addressing the candidacy of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Gyamfi asserted that the crux of the 2024 elections should focus on the trustworthiness and vision of candidates, sidelining considerations of religious affiliations. He expressed skepticism about Dr. Bawumia’s qualifications, stating that Ghanaians need a leader with competence and trustworthiness to navigate the country through its current economic challenges.
“The 2024 election is not about the religion a Presidential Candidate professes or where he comes from. Rather, it’s about TRUST, INTEGRITY, and COMPETENCE, particularly in relation to economic management, and VISION, among others,” Gyamfi emphasized.
Gyamfi urged Dr. Bawumia to prioritize implementing policies that address the concerns of Ghanaians and cautioned against engaging in a divisive religious campaign. He highlighted Ghana’s history of peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims and discouraged exploiting religious sentiments for political gain.
