Johnson Asideu Nketia, the newly elected national chairman of the National Democratic
Congress (NDC) has pledged to work towards uniting the party to attain victory in the 2024
general election.
Delivering a victory speech on the Sunday morning after the Electoral Commission declared the
results and sworn in the new executives, Mr. Nketia said, “We pledge on behalf of myself and on
behalf of the newly elected executives that in coming days, our first assignment will be to work
to unite the party and bring everybody who could not be endorsed today on board.”
Mr. Nketia explains that, the only way the NDC can win power at the next elections is for the
party to come together and “march forward to defeat the elephant and set the nation on the path
of progress and prosperity again”.
He expressed confidence in the array of national executives elected and extended an enormous
gratitude to the members of the party for entrusting to him the chairmanship position.
“It shows the confidence the party has in us. We don’t take this confidence for granted. We see it
as a call to duty”, he added Iterating the national crises and indicating the NDC’s wish to regain freedom for the good people
of Ghana, Asiedu Nketia noted that the 2024 general elections is not only for the NDC but more
importantly, an election to regain the independence of the country.
“As our forebears sacrificed to win independence from the colonial government, we believe that
it is our time to continue the fight to win the second independence for Ghana”, he stated
He assured all present of their commitment to the cause and their willingness to sacrifice to
make sure Ghana is delivered.
Mr. Nketia invited all candidates who did not make it to the national executives to offer their
service as their defeat indicates that the party needs them to serve in other capacities.
